Ex-Formula 1 maestro Mark Webber was in Stuttgart last week for the Porsche Grand Prix tennis tournament, witnessing a certain Ms Sharapova dominate the competition.
It would be rude to pass up the opportunity to take a powerful car for a spin when in the hometown of Germany's premier sports car manufacturer, so Webber and Sharapova buckled up in the brand's latest 918 Spyder hybrid machine for a quick blast.
Webber is currently driving for the marque in the LMP1 class of the World Endurance Championship, while Maria Sharapova is an official Porsche Ambassador. There was clearly some 'contractual obligation' involved in the production of the video below but it is a fun watch nonetheless.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is the latest in a new breed of hypercars that see potent engines – in this case a 4.6-litre V8 – mated to powerful electric motors for scarcely rivalled performance figures.
A cool £652,849 buys the game-changing machine, which is capable of completing the 0-62mph sprint in 2.8 seconds and rocket on to a top speed of around 211mph.
Webber described the vehicle's performance as "phenomenal" and Sharapova claims it is out of her price range. Not that we believe her for a second.
