Refreshed VW Touareg unveiled in Beijing
The new look Touareg appears wider, with larger lights, reprofiled bumpers with two extra horizontal fins and a new, deeper radiator grille.
At the rear, The Touareg now features twin exhaust tailpipes for a sportier look and features LED foglights integrated into the bumper.
If that wasn't enough to get your juices pumping, the refreshed car also benefits from new door mirror caps and a new range of wheels and paint colours to choose from, as well as an improved choice of colours for the standard-fit leather interior.
The entry level 3.0-litre V6 TDI Touareg - likely to be the most popular model in the UK - remains at 204hp but achieves a combined 42.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 174g/km compared to the previous models 40.4mpg and 184g/km. The 258hp model is marginally less efficient but both V6 engines are now compliant with the stringent EU6 emission standards.
Volkswagen has achieved these economy gains with low rolling resistance tyres, a stop-start function, a battery regeneration system and a new catalytic converter featuring AdBlue, an exhaust additive that drastically reduces diesel particulate emissions.
The Touareg also uses a coasting function, which decouples the clutch from the engine when not accelerating, to preserve the car's momentum by avoiding engine braking.
All models are also now fitted with an automatic post-collision braking system - preventing the car from moving while not under control after an accident - and bi-xenon lights. Plus there is the option of automatic distance control, which will not only adapt the vehicle's speed to suit traffic conditions with the cruise control active, but will also perform an emergence brake if it senses an impending collision.
UK order books open in August with the first deliveries reaching our shores in November. However the V8 diesel and Hybrid models won't be offered here.
