The cool lines of the Aston Martin DB5 and interior elements of classic Jaguars are destined to live on thanks to a new sportscar from British designer David Brown.

The David Brown Speedback GT has been hailed as 'the future of the British sportscar' and has just been unveiled to a crowd of potential customers and journalists during a low-key presentation.

Based entirely on the now defunct Jaguar XKR, the Speedback GT will feature most of the underpinnings and mechanical parts of the aforementioned Jag but boast hand-sculpted bodywork that harks back to the 'golden days' of British sportscar manufacturing.

The David Brown touch extends to the luxurious interior where all switches and dials are completely bespoke to the model. A material used in abundance is laser-melted nickel that is crafted using a process dubbed 'direct metal laser sintering' – the first of its kind in this country.

The new car will also feature the XKR's 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that is capable of kicking out over 500bhp and a monstrous 846Nm of torque. Top speed was limited to 155mph on the Jags of old but there is now word on whether the curfew will be lifted or not on David Brown's creation.

There is also no word on price either, but some parties are estimating a figure that is well into Koenigsegg and Pagani territory.
