A molten hot version of the critically acclaimed Mercedes-Benz S-class coupe is just around the corner and its performance prowess is set to blow the socks off keen petrolheads.

The luxurious cruiser with ballistic statistics will replace the CL63 AMG towards the end of the year and will cost around the £100,000 mark – putting it in the Bentley Continental and Aston Martin Rapide's crosshairs.

The devastating amount of horsepower is courtesy of AMG's twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine. Tweaks and changes result in a 40bhp increase over the outgoing CL63 AMG model, while torque remains the same.

As with many updated models, weight has been reduced – some 65kg in this case – which serves to improve both performance and fuel efficiency, although the latter still isn't anything to write home about (28mpg, if you're interested).

Performance figures are worth getting excited about, however, with 0-62mph sprint completed in an astonishing 4.3 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph.

The German missile will also feature Mercedes' new Magic Body Control suspension system that, apart from famously being advertised by chickens, also offers a high-tech solution to the age-old suspension set-up.

On board computers and sensors can read the road surface and adjust the suspension accordingly. A cornering tilt function can also incline the body by up to 2.5 degrees at speeds between 19mph and 112mph to 'flatten out' cambers and make the ride more comfortable for occupants.
