Impressive efficiency gains from new Audi A6 'Ultra'
Starting from £32,515 on the road, the new model is the result of "the single-minded pursuit of unparalleled efficiency," according to the German carmaker. It uses a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, which develops 187bhp and 400Nm of torque.
At launch, the A6 Ultra will be available solely with a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch automatic gearbox, with a manual option becoming available some time after the car's showroom debut.
Despite offering credible performance - with a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 144mph - its official efficiency figures are the real headline grabbers. A combined cycle fuel economy figure of 64.2mpg and emissions as low as 114g/km, will see the A6 Ultra appeal to company car drivers and those looking for a luxury car that won't cost the earth to run.
The first in a trio of forthcoming new models to wear the badge, the A6 will eventually be joined with eco-biased versions of the A4 saloon and A5 coupe.
Audi Board Member for Development, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg said: "The latest TDI technology, ultra-efficient transmissions, advanced exhaust aftertreatment – customers will hardly see anything, but they'll notice the effects of powerful acceleration and, thanks to extremely low fuel consumption, when paying at the gas station."
The Audi A6 Ultra is available in both saloon and estate 'Avant' guises, and will be available in the three trim levels (SE, S line and Black Edition) as all other A6 models.
Standard equipment is also identical, and includes MMI Radio Plus with DAB digital radio, driven through a 6.5-inch retractable colour screen. Also fitted is sat nav, automatic lights and wipers, keyless go and Audi Parking System Plus.
