The Peugeot 205 GTi will always go down in history as one of the iconic hot hatches that kick started a revolution for fiery small cars.
Car Magazine voted it Car of the Decade in 1990 and a very young and very hairy Jeremy Clarkson dubbed it, "the fastest car money could buy" while driving it on twisty Norfolk back roads during an early episode of Top Gear.
Peugeot's upcoming 208 GTi has a lot to live up to, then. For a start, it weighs in at around 1,000kg; an original 205 could weigh as little as 794kg (in Rallye edition).
The original 205 GTi had proper rallying heritage, the new 208 doesn't.
We could carry on listing the differences but we won't because Peugeot assures us – via a very fancy video – that the GTi moniker is back and it means business.
The 208 GTi doesn't go into production until April of this year, so the teaser video below will have to sate our appetites until then.
