BMW has added another bodystyle to its M6 model range – the M6 Gran Coupe.

It's the four-door variant in the growing M6 range and is all set to make its official debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

Like its two-door coupe and convertible M6 siblings, the Gran Coupe uses the high-revving 552bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and the M5's twin-clutch automatic gearbox.

It tips the scales at just 5kg more than the M5 saloon at 1,950kg, and features a number of M modifications to the bodywork. The primary change is the M bodykit with flared arches and spoilers, while the M6 Gran Coupe also gets four exhaust pipes, 20-inch wheels, a carbon-fibre roof and lowered and stiffened suspension.

The newcomer is limited to 155mph, and gets to 60mph in four seconds. A performance package allowing the M6 Gran Coupe to top 189mph will be offered to those customers demanding extra speed.

The M6 Gran Coupe weighs in at £97,490 when it goes on sale in May 2013, and comes with full-leather interior, two-zone climate control, sat-nav and heated and electric front seats.

As a guide, the M6 Gran Coupe's biggest rival, the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG, is a whopping £15,600 cheaper, while the BMW M5 saloon is £25k less expensive.
