Skoda has released the first pictures and details of its much-awaited new Octavia.
The third-generation hatchback has been given a shove upmarket after the arrival of the new Rapid. It's based on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform as already used on the Audi A3, Seat Leon and the new Golf.
It's best in class in interior length, knee room, headroom and boot space.
Skoda's design chief Jozef Kaban has been put to work to give the Octavia an all-new body, and Skoda bosses have already proclaimed that "no other Skoda has ever appeared as dynamic and at the same time as timelessly elegant".
Inside the Octavia reflects the design of new generation Skodas, and has a whole host of safety equipment including nine airbags and a fatigue detection system.
Headlining the powertrain line-up is a 1.6-litre diesel as fitted in the Octavia Greenline which emits 89g/km of CO2. Making up the rest of the range are four petrols and four diesels – and the Czech brand has confirmed an Octavia vRS will join the range at a later date.
