Just weeks after its official launch in Volvo dealerships across the land, the Swedish firm has revealed a sportier version of the brand new V40.

Badged R-Design, the newcomer will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show later this month, sporting the now familiar Rebel Blue paintwork.

It's not just the sudden paintwork that's all new, though. The racy V40 gets a whole host of R-Design bodywork enhancements including a shiny black grille and redesigned front bumper, five-spoke 17-inch alloys and twin exhausts.

R-Design models also get part-leather upholstery, a TFT instrument display, a sports steering wheel and sports pedals. There's an assortment of R-Design badges inside, too.

Doesn't cut it for you? Volvo will sell you an R-Design Lux if you crave features like an embossed leather interior, bending xenon lights, a rain sensor, cruise control, keyless start and something called "rear theatre lighting".

But the V40 R-Design isn't all show and no go. Two types of chassis will be made available – "dynamic" and "sport" – the latter of which is lowered by 10mm and has stiffer shocks.

As with all previous R-Design models, buyers will be able to choose an assortment of engines – from the eco D2 diesel variant which emits 94g/km of CO2, right up to the hairy-chested 2.5-litre T5 turbocharged petrol with 254bhp.

Volvo is marketing the car to younger buyers, and expects 25 per cent of all UK sales to be the R-Design model.

Dealers are taking orders as of now, but prices will be published next month. Customer deliveries begin in January 2013.
