The best and worst value car insurance cover providers in the UK have been revealed in a poll of more than 29,000 drivers.

A survey of Auto Express readers has revealed which cover providers charge the most for insurance – and there are some big name offenders to be wary of.

Topping the poll was high street giant Kwik Fit which was deemed the most expensive. It was closely followed by Lloyds TSB in second and Endsleigh in third. Making up the top five was The Post Office and Diamond.

However, Adelaide Insurance Services (IAM Surety) was named the cheapest car insurance provider in the poll. In second was Frizzell (LV Frizzell) and in third Royal and Sun Alliance. Ageas, previously known as Fortis, was fourth and RIAS took fifth place.

The figures also showed that More Than was the worst company for offering discounts to new customers and then slapping on price hikes – sometimes by as much as 50 per cent – at renewal time.
