New BMW 3 Series gets five-star Euro NCAP award
The latest round of Euro NCAP results are in, and every single car featured has been awarded a maximum five-star score.
The BMW 3 Series is the headline car, although the smaller Peugeot 208 supermini's five-star award is a big deal too because, like the 3 Series, it's likely to sell by the giant bucket load if it follows in the tyre prints of its predecessor.
Any five-star award is a big deal, of course. Four cars were tested this time around, with the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai i30 - both also likely to be strong sellers in the UK - achieving maximum stars.
All the cars run each other very close in terms of the individual elements of the test, with all scoring very highly for adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, and safety assistance systems.
However, there's room for improvement in the fourth element of the test - pedestrian protection. The highest score was given to the 3 Series, with 78%, while the Peugeot's 61% score is lowest.
