Autoblog reported on the rumour of a MINI GP II last year and prototypes have been seen pounding the Nurburgring doing development mileage. However, so far there's been no confirmation of production.
Well, not any more, as according to a tweet posted last night by MINI USA, MINI Boss Dr Kay Segler has officially announced that a GP II will be built.
Also, as we also predicted, the World premier for this new hardcore version of the car, will be at next month's MINI United event in France.
No official details on specifications have been announced yet, but we expect GP II to follow the same lightweight formula as the original.
We think this exclusive fast MINI will pack a 220bhp punch from the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, have no rear seats and an exclusive body kit.
More details will be posted on Autoblog when we have them.
