Electric vehicle

The introduction of electric cars into mainstream motoring will become more of a reality after an EU prompted international agreement.

The EU, United States and Japan have agreed to form a partnership on the regulations surrounding electric vehicles around the world, specifically focusing on safety and cost saving during production.

Precedents will be set for electric vehicle and component manufacturers to adhere to future global industry standards, in the hope that EV sales will flourish and drive down costs at the same time.

Two informal working groups will also be set up. One group will test electric vehicle safety from protecting occupants from electric shock to how batteries react in an accident and their recharging habits.

The second group will look to provide an industry standard on measuring emissions and the environmental impact of production processes and the use of electric vehicles on our roads. As yet, there is no official measuring system to define how much more environmentally friendly EVs are.
