The official images of the convertible Roadster version of the Mercedes SLS AMG supercar were revealed a while back, but the Frankfurt Motor Show was the first chance to see this car in the metal.
Surely a candidate for one of the fastest and exclusive convertibles on sale, the SLS AMG Roadster will cost £180,000 and will be available to order from next month with the first UK cars hitting our shores in November.
Despite the SLS's lightweight structure being designed with a convertible version in mind, the roof and its hydraulic motors have increased the weight by a fairly modest 40kg. That gives it a kerb weight of 1660kg.
Still, performance from the 563bhp 6.2-litre V8 is similar to the coupe, with 62mph dispatched in just 3.8 seconds and the top speed is just shy of the magic double-tonne.
The three-layer roof is clever too, as it can operate at speeds up to 30mph, takes 11 seconds to open and has a glass rear window.
