Busting the speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats is a serious business. Your average hot rod is not going to be good enough to crack 366mph, no matter how potent the engine is.

Consequently, George Poteet's Speed Demon is a proper old school Streamliner - shaped like a bullet, built from fibreglass and more than capable of covering the salt flats at beyond 150 metres per second.

With the help of the turbocharged eight-cylinder engine behind him, Poteet managed to crack 425mph before recording an average record of 390mph.
