Renault has announced that the Twizy, its wacky electric quadricycle, will go on sale in the UK for just £6,690 next year.
Aimed strictly at urban commuters, the Twizy is a curious mix of city car and scooter that seats two occupants in a tandem configuration.
Powered by a 17hp electric motor, the new Renault has a range of 62 miles and fully recharges in three and a half hours from a domestic mains supply.
The Twizy will be available in two trim levels: Urban and Technic. Urban is the entry-level version, while the higher spec Technic will cost £7,400.
On top of that Renault will charge you £40 a month to lease the battery on a 36 month, 4,500 mile a year agreement. This extra cost might seem an irritating extra, but thanks to Renault retaining ownership of the battery it means it will replace it if anything goes wrong and it has even said it will replace it when it inevitably starts to lose power towards the end of its life.
There may be the option to buy the whole unit in the future, but no details have been announced on this just yet.
Customers can reserve their Twizy on www.renault-ze.com with a deposit of just £20 and will take delivery early next year.
