Mini USA's offer to race Porsche was a social media coup for the brand. US boss Jim McDowell probably guessed that his former employees would turn down the challenge, but that wasn't going to stop Mini from plugging the proposed competition for a few weeks - and without a rival they'd have the spotlight all to themselves.

That was until Hyundai stepped into the breech. Last week the South Korean manufacturer called Mini's bluff and offered to take Porsche's place on the start line with their new Genesis coupe.

We're not sure where all this is going to end, but we certainly like the idea of car manufacturers challenging each other over Facebook like jilted teenagers.
