David Cameron couldn't arrive at 10 Downing Street in the new Jaguar XJ because the car was still being tested by the Metropolitan Police, it has emerged.
Jaguar was keen to promote its latest luxury model as the new PM swept into power, but the armoured versions of the car weren't available, meaning the luxury British firm missed a great marketing opportunity.
Two armoured XJs were specially developed for the occasion in an effort to capitalise on the publicity, but the police hadn't finished testing them and refused to use the new cars to transport the PM.
Cameron was driven from Buckingham Palace to 10 Downing Street in an old-style armoured XJ. He took delivery of the latest model the following day and will continue to use it from now on.
